CleanTalk is a cloud-based anti-spam service. A small plugin on your site sends each submission to CleanTalk, which decides whether it's spam — so your contact forms, comments, and user registrations stay clean without CAPTCHAs.

Quick summary

CleanTalk is driven by an access key. Find it in your Anti-Spam Dashboard at cleantalk.org: locate your website and click the key icon to reveal it. Send it to us via One-Time Secret. If you want us to see the spam logs too, CleanTalk has a Grant Control option that shares a site with another CleanTalk account — see the optional step below, and note it needs a paid licence.

Step-by-step instructions

Log in to your CleanTalk Anti-Spam Dashboard. Go to cleantalk.org and sign in to the account holding the licence.

Find your website. The dashboard lists each site on the account. Locate the one we're working on.

Copy the access key. Click the key icon next to the site to reveal its Access key. This is the value the plugin needs.

Send it securely. Paste the key into Onetime Secret and share the link in your ClickUp task. Don't email the key in plain text.

(Optional) Grant us control of the site. If you'd like us to review spam logs and tune the filters ourselves, open the Anti-Spam tab, click Settings below the site name, tick Grant Control, and enter our CleanTalk account name — ask us for it rather than guessing, because CleanTalk only accepts an account that already exists. Save, and we confirm the hand-over from our side. One more catch: CleanTalk only offers site delegation on a paid licence with the Anti-Spam Extra Package. If yours doesn't have it, send us the access key instead.

One key per site

You don't need a second CleanTalk account for a second website. Both sites can sit on one account, but each website gets its own access key — so make sure you send us the key for the site we're actually working on.

Common questions

What can you see with dashboard access?

The Anti-Spam Log, which records both the submissions that were blocked and the ones that were allowed, with the reason; your Personal Lists (your own allowed and blocked entries); your filter settings; and your licence status. We use the log mainly to confirm that genuine enquiries aren't being caught by mistake.

Is a legitimate enquiry ever blocked?

Occasionally, yes — no spam filter is perfect. Every decision is recorded in the CleanTalk log, and the log keeps the message text, so a genuine enquiry isn't lost even when it was blocked. Each record has a Not Spam button to correct the decision, and the sender can be added to your Personal Lists so it doesn't happen again. If you're expecting a form submission that never arrived, tell us and we'll check the log. See also form testing.

Do I still need a CAPTCHA?

Usually not, and that's the main appeal. CleanTalk checks each submission behind the scenes, so in most cases visitors aren't asked to prove they're human — one less step between them and sending you an enquiry.

What happens if the licence lapses?

The plugin stays installed, but CleanTalk disables the service and your site stops being protected — the plugin starts reporting a "Service disabled" error. Renewing the subscription restores protection. If you need to change the key afterwards, we'll handle it.
