You’ll need
A Squarespace site with a store page (you need a paid plan to take payments) · At least one product image

Adding a product to your Squarespace store is straightforward. This guide walks you through adding a physical product, download product, or service from start to finish.

Quick summary

Go to Products & Services > Products and click the + button, then choose the store page the product belongs to. Pick a product type, then fill in the name, description, price, and images. Add variants (sizes, colors) if needed. When you're done, hover over Save and click Publish to make it live.

What you'll need

  • A Squarespace site with a store page. You can add products during a free trial, but your site needs a paid plan (Basic, Core, Plus, or Advanced) before customers can buy.
  • Product name, description, and price
  • At least one product image

Opening the Products area

Log in and open your site.

Click Products & Services in the main menu on the left.

Click Products. You'll see a list of your existing products.

Click the + button to create a new one, then choose the store page it should go on. (You can also open the store page from the Pages panel and click + there.)

Choosing the product type

Squarespace asks you to choose the product type first. You can't change the type after the product is created.

TypeUse for
PhysicalItems you ship (with weight and shipping options)
DownloadDigital files customers download, like ebooks or audio files
ServiceClasses, consultations, events, and other services you don't ship
Gift CardStore gift cards

Choose the type that fits your product, then proceed. You can also turn a physical or service product into a subscription later in the product editor.

Filling in the product details

Name and description

  • Product name — keep it clear and specific (e.g., "Hand-poured Soy Candle — Lavender 200g").
  • Description — describe the product clearly. Include key details like materials, dimensions, and what the buyer receives.

Price and SKU

  • Price — enter the selling price.
  • On sale — optionally switch on the On sale toggle and enter a sale price.
  • SKU — a code for your own inventory tracking. Squarespace assigns one automatically, and you can click it to change it to your own code.

Adding product images

Click the image area to add photos.

Upload at least one image from your computer, or reuse an image already on your site. Product images should be smaller than 5MB.

Add multiple images to show different angles.

Drag to reorder. By default, the first image becomes the featured image, which represents the product around your site. To choose a different one, use the Featured image option.

Adding variants (sizes, colors, etc.)

If your product comes in multiple options (e.g., sizes S/M/L or colors Red/Blue), you can add variants to physical and service products:

Scroll to the Inventory section in the product editor. Under Variants, click Add.

Choose the option type (e.g., "Size") from the Options menu, or click Custom to name your own.

Enter each option value (e.g., S, M, L, XL). Each option needs at least two values.

Click Save, then set individual prices and stock levels for each variant if they differ.

Inventory and stock

  • Unlimited quantity — new products have unlimited stock by default. Switch this toggle off if you want Squarespace to track stock counts.
  • Quantity — enter how many you have available. Squarespace updates this automatically after orders and returns.
  • When sold out — when stock reaches 0, customers can't add the product to their cart and a Sold Out label appears. If you'd rather hide a sold-out product, set its visibility to Hidden.

Making the product visible

New products aren't live until you publish them. When you're ready for customers to see a product:

Hover over Save in the product editor.

Click Publish to make the product live and available to buy.

Or click Schedule instead to choose a date and time for it to appear, then click Apply.

You can change this later with the Visibility dropdown under Organization in the product editor. The options are Public, Hidden, and Scheduled.

Common questions

Can I add the same product to multiple categories?

Yes. In the product editor, scroll to Organization and add as many categories as you need. Categories create a navigation on your store page that helps shoppers filter products. Tags are separate, and can be used as filters in some blocks.

Can I duplicate a product?

Yes, for physical and service products. Open the product, click ••• at the top of the product editor, and click the Duplicate icon. This is useful when you have several similar products.

I added a product but I can't see it in my store. Why?

Check that the product's visibility is set to Public (not Hidden or Scheduled). Also check that the product's store page is enabled and in your navigation. If the issue continues, see Troubleshooting Squarespace problems.
