Adding buttons & links
How to add clickable buttons and text links to any Squarespace page, including linking to other pages, external websites, and email addresses.
Buttons and links are how visitors move around your site and take action — booking a call, viewing a service page, or sending you an email. This guide shows you how to add and edit them.
Quick summary
To add a button, insert a Button block in the editor and enter the link URL. To add a text link, select text in a Text block and click the link icon in the toolbar. You can link to pages on your site, external URLs, email addresses, or file downloads.
Adding a button
Buttons draw attention to the most important action on a page (like "Book a consultation" or "Shop now").
Open the page editor and find the section where you want the button.
Click the + icon to add a new block.
Choose Button from the block types list.
Click on the button block to open its settings.
Enter the button label — the text that will appear on the button (e.g., "Book a call").
Enter the URL the button should link to. This can be a page on your site, an external URL, or an email address (see below for format).
Choose whether to open in a new tab. For external links, new tab is usually better so visitors don't leave your site entirely.
Click Apply and then Save.
Adding a text link
A text link is a word or phrase in a block of text that visitors can click to go somewhere.
Click on the text block where you want to add the link.
Highlight the text you want to turn into a link (click and drag to select it).
Click the link icon in the formatting toolbar.
Enter the URL in the link field.
Choose whether to open in a new tab, then click Apply.
Click Save when you're done editing the page.
Types of links
Type the relative URL of the page — for example /contact or /about. In Squarespace's link field, you can also search for pages by name.
Type the full URL, including https:// — for example https://www.instagram.com/yourbusiness. Set it to open in a new tab so visitors don't lose their place on your site.
Type mailto: followed by the email address — for example mailto:hello@yourbusiness.com. When a visitor clicks this, it will open their email app.
Upload your file to Squarespace first, then copy its URL and use that as the link. Files can be uploaded in your Pages settings or via a File block.
Editing or removing an existing link
To edit a text link: click the linked text, then click the link icon in the toolbar. Change the URL and click Apply.
To remove a text link: highlight the linked text, click the link icon, and delete the URL from the field. Then click Apply.
To edit a button: click the button block and update the label or URL in the settings.
