How to edit a page
Step-by-step instructions for opening the Squarespace editor, making changes to a page, and saving or publishing your work.
Editing a page in Squarespace is designed to be visual and straightforward. You click on any element on the page to edit it right there — no separate editing interface to navigate. This guide walks you through the whole process.
Quick summary
Go to Pages in your dashboard, hover over a page name, and click Edit. The page opens with an editing overlay. Click any text, image, or block to edit it. Click Save when you're done.
What you'll need
Beginner 5 minutes- Access to your Squarespace account (see How to log in)
- A computer — desktop editing is easier than mobile for most changes
Opening the editor
Log in at account.squarespace.com and open your website.
Click Pages in the left panel of your dashboard.
Hover over the page you want to edit. A pencil icon or an Edit button will appear next to the page name.
Click Edit. The page opens in your browser with an editing overlay. You'll see your live page plus editing controls.
Editing text
Click on any text block. A toolbar appears above the text with formatting options.
Click inside the text to position your cursor where you want to type.
Make your changes — type, delete, or reformat text.
Click outside the text block when you're done editing that block.
For more detail on text formatting, see How to edit text.
Editing images
Click on any image to select it. A toolbar appears with options to replace the image, adjust its settings, or delete it. See How to edit & replace images for full instructions.
Adding new content
To add a new block (text, image, button, etc.) to an existing section, hover over the area where you want to add content. A + symbol will appear. Click it to see the available block types and choose the one you want.
Saving and discarding changes
Changes save automatically, but check for the Save button
Squarespace often saves as you work, but some actions require you to click a Save button explicitly. Always look for and click Save before closing the editor. If you navigate away without saving, your changes may be lost.
When you're done editing, look for the Save button in the top-right area of the editor.
Click Save to keep your changes.
Click Done or exit the editor** to return to the Pages panel.
If you want to undo changes you've made in this session, look for the Discard option, which will revert to the last saved state.
Previewing on different devices
While in the editor, you can switch between desktop, tablet, and mobile preview modes. Look for device icons in the editing toolbar. This lets you see how your page will look on a phone before going live.
See Checking the mobile view for more.
