Plans & billing explained
A plain-English guide to Squarespace subscription plans, what each includes, how billing works, and where to manage your account.
Squarespace runs on a subscription model. You pay a monthly or annual fee to keep your site active. This guide explains what the plans include, how billing works, and where to make changes.
Quick summary
Squarespace offers several plans at different price points. All plans include hosting, SSL, and the website builder. Commerce features require a Commerce plan. Manage your plan and billing in Settings > Billing & Account.
Squarespace plan tiers
Squarespace offers multiple plans. The exact names and prices change over time, so always verify at squarespace.com/pricing for the most current information. As of the time of writing, the main categories are:
| Plan category | Best for |
|---|---|
| Personal / Basic | Simple websites, portfolios, small blogs |
| Business | Business sites with basic e-commerce (transaction fees apply) |
| Commerce Basic | Online stores without transaction fees |
| Commerce Advanced | Stores needing subscriptions, abandoned cart recovery, advanced shipping |
Transaction fees
On the Business plan, Squarespace charges a transaction fee on each sale (in addition to Stripe/PayPal fees). On Commerce plans, this fee is removed. If you're selling regularly, a Commerce plan is almost always worth the cost.
Annual vs monthly billing
You can pay monthly or annually:
- Monthly — pay each month. Easy to cancel.
- Annual — pay once a year. Usually significantly cheaper (often around 30% off). You're billed the full year upfront.
Most clients choose annual billing for the savings. Check your current billing cycle in Settings > Billing & Account.
What's always included
Regardless of plan, every Squarespace subscription includes:
- Website hosting (your site stays online)
- SSL certificate (the padlock / HTTPS)
- Unlimited bandwidth
- The website builder and editor
- Access to Squarespace's template library
- 24/7 customer support from Squarespace
Upgrading or downgrading your plan
Go to Settings > Billing & Account in your dashboard.
Find your current plan and click Upgrade or Change Plan.
Choose a new plan from the list.
Confirm and pay. If upgrading mid-cycle, you'll pay a prorated amount for the remaining days.
Cancelling a plan
Go to Settings > Billing & Account.
Scroll to the subscription details and click Cancel Subscription.
Follow the prompts to confirm. Your site will remain active until the end of the current billing period, then go offline.
Cancelling removes your site
If you cancel your Squarespace plan, your website will go offline at the end of the billing period. Before cancelling, export any content you want to keep. Contact Chykalophia before cancelling if there's any chance you want to move the site to a different platform.
Updating your payment method
Go to Settings > Billing & Account and click the payment method section to add or update a card.
