ClickUp troubleshooting
Solutions to the most common ClickUp problems clients encounter, from login issues to missing notifications.
Something not working in ClickUp? This guide covers the most common issues clients run into and how to fix them. Most problems have a simple solution that takes less than two minutes.
Quick summary
Most ClickUp problems fall into a few categories: login issues, missing notifications, tasks not loading, or access problems. Try the quick fixes in this guide first. If nothing works, contact us — we can help you directly.
I can't log in
Check your email address. Make sure you're using the same email address that received your ClickUp invite. It may be your work email rather than a personal one.
Try resetting your password. On the ClickUp login page, click Forgot password? and follow the instructions. Check your spam folder if the reset email doesn't arrive.
Try a different browser. Sometimes browser extensions (particularly ad blockers or password managers) interfere with the login page. Try logging in using a private/incognito window or a different browser.
Clear your browser cache. Stale cached files can sometimes cause login problems. In your browser settings, clear the cache and cookies, then try again.
If none of these work, contact us and we'll check that your account is active and correctly configured.
I didn't receive my invite email
Check your spam or junk folder. ClickUp invite emails sometimes land there. Look for an email from @clickup.com.
Check the correct inbox. If you have multiple email accounts, make sure you're checking the one we used for your invite.
Wait a few minutes. Invite emails can occasionally be delayed.
Ask us to resend it. If it still hasn't arrived after 15 minutes, let us know and we'll send a fresh invite.
See Getting your ClickUp invite for more detail.
I can't find a task
Use search first
The quickest way to find any task is to press Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac) in ClickUp to open the universal search. Type a word from the task title and it will appear instantly.
If search doesn't help:
- The task may have been moved to a different list. Ask your project manager where it went.
- The task may have been closed or archived. Ask us to restore it if needed.
- You may not have access to the list the task is in. We can adjust your permissions.
I'm not receiving notifications
Check your notification settings. Log in to ClickUp, click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner, and select Notifications. Make sure the notification types you want are turned on.
Check your email spam folder. ClickUp notification emails are sometimes filtered as promotional. Mark them as "Not spam" to fix this going forward.
Check your phone settings. If you're expecting push notifications on your phone, open your phone's Settings app and make sure ClickUp is allowed to send notifications.
Make sure you're watching the right tasks. You only receive notifications for tasks assigned to you or tasks you're watching. Open a task and look for the Watch toggle to turn it on.
See Managing your ClickUp notifications and ClickUp email notifications explained for full detail.
I'm getting too many notifications
This is one of the most common complaints — and it's easy to fix. Go to Notification Settings (your profile picture → Notifications) and turn off any notification types you don't need.
For most clients, we recommend keeping only:
- @mentions
- Task assignments
- Due date reminders
See Managing your ClickUp notifications for the recommended setup.
A task is stuck on the wrong status
If a task is showing a status that doesn't reflect reality (for example, it says In Progress but the work is done), leave a comment describing what you believe the correct status should be. Tag your project manager with an @mention and we'll sort it out.
Don't change statuses unless you're confident what they mean — see Task statuses explained for guidance.
ClickUp is slow or not loading
Refresh the page. Press F5 (Windows) or Cmd + R (Mac).
Check your internet connection. ClickUp is a cloud app — it needs a stable connection to work.
Clear your browser cache. Old cached files can cause performance issues. Clear your cache in browser settings and reload.
Try a different browser. If ClickUp is slow in one browser, try Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
Check ClickUp's status page. Sometimes ClickUp itself has an outage. Visit status.clickup.com to see if there's a known issue.
I can't attach a file
- Check the file size. ClickUp has file attachment limits. If your file is very large, consider uploading it to Google Drive or Dropbox and sharing the link in a comment instead.
- Check your internet connection. Large file uploads can fail on slow connections.
- Try a different browser. File upload issues are sometimes browser-specific.
See How to attach files & screenshots for the full guide.
I'm seeing tasks or spaces I shouldn't see
This is a permissions issue. Contact your project manager and let them know what you can see. We can adjust your access level so you only see your project.
I accidentally changed something I shouldn't have
Don't panic. Leave a comment on the task explaining what happened, and tag your project manager. Most changes in ClickUp can be undone. The most important thing is to flag it quickly so we can fix it before it causes any confusion.
