Your client portal explained
What you'll see when you log in to ClickUp — and what each part of the workspace means for your project.
When you log in to ClickUp for the first time, it can look like a lot. This guide walks you through exactly what you're looking at and what matters to you as a client.
Quick summary
Your workspace shows your project in the left sidebar. Inside the project, you'll find your tasks organized by phase or category. The most important things to check are tasks marked "In Review" or "Waiting on Client" — those need your attention.
The main areas of your workspace
The left sidebar
The sidebar on the left is your navigation. As a client, you'll see:
- Our shared workspace (named after Chykalophia or your project)
- Your project listed underneath — click it to open your project view
- Spaces and lists — different groupings of tasks within your project
Most clients only need to navigate one or two levels deep.
The task list or board
The central area of ClickUp shows your tasks. These may be displayed as a list (rows of tasks) or a board (columns by status). Both show the same information — just arranged differently.
Each task shows:
- Task name — what the work item is
- Status — where it is in the workflow (see Task statuses explained)
- Assignee — who is responsible for it
- Due date — when it's expected to be complete
The task detail panel
Click any task to open it and see the full details:
- The full description of the work
- Any files or designs attached
- The comment thread — where all conversation about this task happens
- The current status and any subtasks
This is where you'll do most of your reviewing, commenting, and approving.
What to focus on
As a client, you don't need to look at every task. Focus on:
| What to look for | What it means |
|---|---|
| Status: In Review | Something is ready for you to look at |
| Status: Waiting on Client | We need something from you before we can proceed |
| Comments with @yourname | Someone has specifically asked for your attention |
| Tasks with a due date approaching | Something that needs your input soon |
Notifications
ClickUp will notify you when something needs your attention — by email or in-app. See Managing your ClickUp notifications to control how and when you receive these.
