How to comment on a task
How to leave a comment on a ClickUp task to give feedback, ask a question, or respond to your project team.
Comments are how we communicate about specific pieces of work in ClickUp. Instead of sending an email, you leave a comment directly on the task. Everyone involved can see it, and it stays attached to that task forever.
Quick summary
Open the task, scroll to the comments section at the bottom, type your message, and click Send. You can format your text, attach files, or tag a team member with @their-name. Your comment is visible to everyone with access to the task.

How to leave a comment
Open the task. Navigate to your project and click the task you want to comment on. The task opens in a detail panel or a full window.
Scroll to the bottom. The comments section is at the bottom of the task. You'll see a text box with placeholder text like "Write a comment…"
Click inside the text box. This activates the comment editor and reveals the formatting toolbar above it.
Type your message. Write your feedback, question, or response in plain language. Keep it focused — one idea per comment is easier to track.
Tag the right person if needed. If you want a specific person to be notified, type @ followed by their name and select them from the list that appears. See Mentioning people to get their attention for details.
Click the Send button (or press Ctrl+Enter on Windows / Cmd+Enter on Mac). Your comment is posted immediately.
Formatting your comment
The comment editor has a small toolbar that lets you format text. You don't have to use it — plain text works perfectly — but it helps when your comment is long.
| Format | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Bold | Highlight a key word or action |
| Italic | Emphasis or titles |
| Bullet list | Multiple separate points |
| Numbered list | Steps in a sequence |
| Quote | Refer back to something already said |
Attaching a file to a comment
You can attach a screenshot or document directly to a comment — not just to the task itself.
Click the paperclip icon (attachment icon) in the comment toolbar.
Select your file from your computer. Common formats like JPG, PNG, PDF, and Word documents all work.
Add your comment text to explain what the file shows.
Click Send. The file appears as an attachment inside your comment.
For more detail on attaching files, see How to attach files & screenshots.
Editing or deleting a comment
If you make a mistake, you can edit or delete your own comment.
Hover over your comment. A small menu appears to the right of the comment (three dots or a pencil icon).
Click Edit to change the text, or Delete to remove it. You can only edit or delete your own comments — not someone else's.
Deleting is permanent
Deleted comments can't be recovered. If you just want to correct a typo, use Edit instead.
Resolving a comment
ClickUp lets you mark a comment as resolved once the issue it raised has been addressed. You'll see a small checkmark icon when you hover over a comment. Click it to resolve — this collapses the comment thread so the task stays tidy.
Resolved comments are still there — you can click "Show resolved" to view them again.
