How to request changes
Learn how to ask for revisions clearly and effectively inside ClickUp so your feedback gets acted on quickly.
Requesting changes is a normal, welcome part of the process. This guide shows you how to leave clear, actionable feedback in ClickUp so we can address it quickly — and without any back-and-forth confusion.
Quick summary
Open the task you want to give feedback on. Leave a comment describing exactly what you'd like changed and why. If the task status is currently Needs Approval, change it to Changes Requested (or leave a comment and we'll do it). The clearer your feedback, the faster we can turn it around.
What you'll need
Beginner 5–10 minutes- A ClickUp account with access to your project
- The task you'd like to give feedback on (we'll usually link it in our message to you)
Why clear feedback matters
Vague feedback like "something feels off" is hard to act on. Specific feedback like "the button on the contact page should say 'Get in touch' instead of 'Submit'" gets addressed in one round.
Good feedback includes:
- What needs changing ("the headline on the homepage")
- What you want instead ("I'd like it to read 'Award-Winning Brand Strategy'")
- Why, if it's not obvious ("this matches the tagline on our brochure")
You don't need to write an essay. One or two clear sentences per change is plenty.
How to request changes
Open the task. Use the link in your notification email, or find the task in your client portal. Not sure how to navigate? See Navigating ClickUp as a client.
Review the work. Read the description and view the deliverable (linked in the task or in comments). Take notes on what you'd like changed before you start typing.
Write your feedback as a comment. Scroll to the comment box. List each change you'd like on its own line. Be specific. You can use numbered points — that makes it easy for us to check off each item.
Attach a file or screenshot if helpful. If you're describing a visual change, a screenshot with annotations can save a lot of words. See How to attach files & screenshots.
Update the task status. Change the status to Changes Requested (or a similar label like Revisions Needed). This alerts the team and moves the task back into our queue. If you're not sure how to change status, just leave the comment — we'll handle it.
Tag us if it's urgent
If a change is time-sensitive, type @ followed by your project manager's name in your comment. This sends them an instant notification. See Mentioning people to get their attention.
Writing great feedback: examples
Less helpful
- "I don't like the colors."
- "Can we change the text?"
- "Something looks wrong on mobile."
More helpful
- "The teal button feels too bright — can we try the navy from our brand guide?"
- "The third paragraph under 'Our Services' should end with a period."
- "On my iPhone, the logo overlaps the menu. Can you check?"
How many rounds of revisions do I get?
This depends on your project agreement. Most projects include a set number of revision rounds per deliverable. Check your proposal or ask your project manager if you're unsure. The goal is always to get it right — we'll work with you.
What happens after I request changes?
Your project manager is notified and the task is added back into the team's queue. We'll leave a reply in the task when the changes are ready for another round of review.
