ClickUp email notifications explained
Understand the emails ClickUp sends you, why you receive them, and how to adjust them to suit your preferences.
ClickUp can send a lot of emails. Some are essential — like when we tag you on a task. Others can fill up your inbox quickly if left at default settings. This guide explains what each type of email means and how to get exactly the level of communication that works for you.
Quick summary
ClickUp sends email notifications when tasks are updated, comments are added, or you're @mentioned. You can adjust which emails you receive in your ClickUp notification settings. The most important emails to keep on are @mentions and task assignments — everything else is adjustable.
Types of emails ClickUp sends
ClickUp sends several categories of email notifications:
| Email type | When it arrives | Keep it? |
|---|---|---|
| @mention | When someone tags you in a comment | Yes — important |
| Task assigned to you | When a task is assigned to your name | Yes — important |
| Status change | When a task's status is updated | Optional |
| New comment | When someone comments on a task you're watching | Optional |
| Due date reminder | Before a deadline approaches | Recommended |
| Daily/weekly digest | A summary of all activity | Good alternative to individual emails |
| Invite & access | Account invites and permission changes | Yes |
Understanding a ClickUp email
A typical notification email from ClickUp includes:
- The workspace and list the activity happened in
- The task name (clickable — it opens the task directly)
- What happened (a comment, a status change, etc.)
- The content of the comment or update
- A link to reply in ClickUp
You can usually act on a notification just by clicking the task link in the email — you don't need to navigate ClickUp manually.
How to change your email notification preferences
Log in to ClickUp on your computer or phone.
Click your avatar (your profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
Select "Notifications" from the menu.
Find the Email column. Each notification type has toggles for in-app, email, and mobile. Look for the email column specifically.
Toggle off the types you don't want. We recommend keeping @mentions, assignments, and due date reminders on.
Save changes if prompted.
Switching to a daily or weekly digest
Instead of receiving one email per event, you can get a single summary email once a day or once a week. This is a great option if you want to stay informed without interruptions throughout the day.
Look for a Notification Digest or Email Frequency option in your notification settings. Set it to daily or weekly to bundle your updates.
Digest emails may be delayed
If you're expecting an urgent update, a digest email may not arrive until your scheduled send time. For urgent matters, we recommend keeping @mentions as instant emails, and switching other types to digest.
ClickUp emails going to spam?
ClickUp notification emails come from a @clickup.com address. Some email providers flag them as promotional or route them to spam.
To fix this:
Open your email app and find your spam or junk folder.
Look for emails from ClickUp (the sender will be something like notifications@clickup.com).
Mark them as "Not spam" or move them to your inbox. This teaches your email provider to trust ClickUp.
Add the sender to your contacts or safe senders list. In Gmail, you can click "Add to contacts." In Outlook, look for "Never block sender."
Unsubscribing from a specific task's emails
If a task is generating too many email updates, you can unwatch it without affecting your other notifications.
Open the task in ClickUp and click the Watch icon (an eye or bell symbol near the top of the task). Toggling it off means you'll stop receiving emails about that specific task.
