A plain-English introduction to Webflow — the platform your website is built on and why agencies like Chykalophia use it.

If your website was built by Chykalophia, there's a good chance it runs on Webflow. This guide explains what Webflow is, why we use it, and what it means for you as a site owner.

Quick summary

Webflow is a professional website platform that lets designers build fully custom sites without writing code. You manage content through a clean editing interface, and Webflow handles all the technical hosting. You don't need to know anything about code to run your site day-to-day.

What Webflow actually is

Webflow is a website platform — similar in purpose to WordPress or Squarespace, but built differently. Everyone works in the same Webflow app, but the tools you see depend on your role. In practice, it has two parts:

A design tool (the Designer) — used by your web developer or Chykalophia to build the visual design of your site.
A content management system (the CMS and edit mode) — used by you and your team to update content, publish blog posts, and make everyday edits.

You almost certainly won't use the design tool. You'll most likely have Webflow's Content editor role, which works in what Webflow calls edit mode — a clean, friendly interface where you click on text to edit it, swap images, and manage your content. (Webflow's old, separate Editor was retired on August 4, 2026.)

Why Webflow is different from WordPress

WordPress is the most popular website platform in the world — and for good reason. But it comes with complexity: plugins, database management, security patches, and occasional breakage.

Webflow takes a different approach. The design is "locked in" — your developer builds exactly what you need, and it stays that way. You edit the content, but the structure and styling remain intact. This means:

No accidental layout breakage. You can edit text freely without worrying about ruining the design.
No plugin updates to manage. Webflow handles all the infrastructure.
Fast, managed hosting. Webflow hosts your site and delivers it through Cloudflare's global content delivery network.

What you can do in Webflow

As a client with the Content editor role, you can:

Edit text on your pages
Replace images
Update links and buttons
Add, edit, and delete blog posts or other CMS content
View and export form submissions
Publish changes to your live site (if your account is allowed to publish)
Check your SEO settings

What you generally won't do (because it's handled by Chykalophia):

Change the visual design, layout, or styling
Add new sections or page structures
Connect new integrations or custom code

Is Webflow safe?

Yes. Webflow is a well-funded, established company, and it describes its hosting as enterprise-grade. Webflow manages your site's hosting, and your site is stored and delivered by Cloudflare's global network. SSL/HTTPS, automatic backups, and DDoS protection are included.

You don't need to worry about security patches, plugin vulnerabilities, or database maintenance. That's all handled by the platform.

Common questions

Do I need to pay for Webflow separately?

Most likely, yes — your site needs a paid Webflow Site plan to be live on your own domain. Chykalophia will advise you on the right plan during your project. See Webflow plans & billing explained for details.

Can I move away from Webflow if I want to?

Yes. Your CMS content (like blog posts) can be exported as spreadsheet (CSV) files, and Chykalophia can migrate your site to another platform if your needs change. However, the design work is specific to Webflow and would need to be rebuilt on a new platform. Webflow can export a site's code on a paid Workspace plan, but the export leaves out CMS content and forms stop working, so the exported site won't work the same way.

What happens if Webflow goes down?

Like any online service, Webflow can occasionally have outages. You can check the current status at status.webflow.com. If your site is down and the status page shows all clear, contact us.

I've heard Webflow is expensive. Is that true?

It depends what you compare it with. A Webflow Site plan includes managed hosting, SSL, and automatic backups, so compare it with the full cost of running a site elsewhere: hosting, any paid plugins, and upkeep. Prices change, so check webflow.com/pricing for current rates. We find the included infrastructure, security, and performance make it good value for professional sites.
