Editing links & buttons
How to update the destination of links and buttons on your Webflow site using the Editor.
Links and buttons guide your visitors to take action. This guide shows you how to update where they go, and how to change their text.
Quick summary
Click on a link or button in the Webflow Editor to select it. Use the small settings panel that appears to change the URL it points to, or click into the text to edit the button label. Publish when you're done.
What you'll need
Beginner 5 minutes- The Webflow Editor open on your site
- The URL you want the link or button to point to (or the name of the page on your site)
Editing a link's destination
Open the Editor and navigate to the page with the link. Use your site's navigation to get to the right page.
Click on the link or button. A small settings panel will appear, usually with URL or link settings.
Click the link/URL field in the panel. This will show the current destination.
Update the URL or choose a page. You can type a web address (like https://example.com), a path to another page on your site (like /contact), or choose from your site's pages in the dropdown.
Set whether it opens in the same tab or a new tab. For links to external sites, it's usually better to open in a new tab. For links to pages on your own site, same tab is standard.
Click elsewhere to confirm. Then Publish when you're ready.
Editing a button's text
Click on the button text. In the Editor, you can click directly on the button label to enter text editing mode.
Edit the text. Type your new label directly.
Click elsewhere and then Publish.
Types of links in Webflow
Webflow supports several link types. You'll see these as options in the link settings panel:

| Page | A page within your Webflow site |
| Section | An anchor link to a specific section on a page |
Opens the visitor's email app (use mailto:you@example.com) | |
| Phone | Opens a phone dialer on mobile (use tel:+15551234567) |
| File | Links directly to a downloadable file |
Email and phone links
If you want a button that lets visitors email you or call you:
- Email link: enter
mailto:hello@yourbusiness.comas the URL, or select "Email" from the link type dropdown and type your address. - Phone link: enter
tel:+15551234567(include the country code) as the URL, or select "Phone."
These links open the visitor's email client or phone app when clicked.
When you can't edit a link in the Editor
Some links are part of the design (for example, links inside navigation menus or footer areas) and can't be edited through the Editor. If clicking on a link doesn't open any settings panel, it's a design-level element.

Check links after updating
After updating a link, always click through it yourself (in a new tab) to confirm it goes to the right place before publishing.
