How to edit text
A step-by-step guide to editing text on your Webflow site using the Editor — including headings, paragraphs, and rich text content.
Editing text in Webflow is straightforward once you know where to click. This guide walks you through the process from start to finish.
Quick summary
Open the Editor, click on any editable text, make your change, then click Publish when you're ready for the update to go live. Always paste as plain text (Ctrl+Shift+V / Cmd+Shift+V) to avoid importing unwanted formatting.
What you'll need
Beginner 5 minutes- Access to the Webflow Editor for your site
- The Editor open in your browser (see Editor mode vs Designer mode if you need help)
Editing a heading or paragraph
Open the Editor. Log in to webflow.com, find your project, and open the Editor. Alternatively, add ?edit to the end of your site's URL and log in.
Navigate to the page you want to edit. Use the navigation on the page itself (click through your menu) to reach the right page.
Click on the text you want to change. Your cursor will change to a text cursor. The text element will be highlighted.
Make your edit. Type to replace selected text, or click to place your cursor and then type. Delete text normally with the Backspace key.
Click elsewhere to deselect. Click somewhere outside the text element to finish editing that block.
Click Publish. When you're happy with all your changes, click the Publish button in the Editor toolbar to make the changes live.
Editing rich text (body content with multiple paragraphs)
Some content areas — like a blog post body or a service description — are "rich text" fields. These support multiple paragraphs, headings, bold/italic text, and links.
When you click into a rich text area, you'll see a small formatting toolbar appear. Use it to:
- Bold text (B button or Ctrl+B / Cmd+B)
- Italicize text (I button or Ctrl+I / Cmd+I)
- Add a link (the link icon)
- Format as a heading level (H1, H2, H3)
- Create a bullet list or numbered list
Keep formatting minimal
It's tempting to make everything bold or use lots of different heading levels. Resist this urge. Your site's typography was carefully designed — overusing formatting makes it look inconsistent. Bold key phrases. Use headings only when they help readers navigate a long section.
Pasting text from another source
When you copy text from Word, an email, a Google Doc, or a website, that text carries hidden formatting: custom fonts, colors, and sizes. If you paste it directly, it can override your site's styles.
Always paste as plain text:
- Windows: Ctrl+Shift+V
- Mac: Cmd+Shift+V
This strips all formatting and pastes only the words. Your site's built-in styles will apply correctly.
Editing CMS text (blog posts, case studies, etc.)
Text inside CMS items — like blog post bodies — works slightly differently. Instead of clicking directly on the page, you open the CMS item from the Editor panel.
See How to edit CMS items for a full walkthrough.
Editing text you can't click on
If you click on some text and nothing happens, that element may not be set up as editable in the Editor. This is a deliberate design decision — some text is part of the visual design and should only be changed by a developer.
If you genuinely need to edit that text, submit a request to Chykalophia and we'll update it for you.
