How to share a screen recording

How to record your screen and share the video with our support team so we can see exactly what is happening.

troubleshootingbeginnergetting-started

A screen recording is a video of what's happening on your screen. It's often more helpful than a screenshot when you need to show us a process, an animation, or a problem that only appears while you're doing something — like clicking a button that doesn't respond, or a form that fails partway through.

Quick summary

Record your screen to show us a problem in action. On Mac, press Cmd+Shift+5. On Windows, press Windows+G. Then upload the video to Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer and share the link with us. Don't worry about production quality — we just need to see what's happening.

Record your screen on Mac

Press Cmd + Shift + 5. A toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen.

Choose your recording type:

  • "Record Entire Screen" — records everything on your display
  • "Record Selected Portion" — lets you drag to select a specific area (recommended for recording just a browser window)

Click Record in the toolbar. A countdown may appear.

Perform the steps that show the problem. Talk through what you're doing if that helps — narration is very helpful.

Stop recording by clicking the Stop button in the menu bar (a small square icon near the clock), or by pressing Cmd + Ctrl + Esc.

The recording saves to your Desktop as a .mov file.

Want to record with audio?

In the Cmd+Shift+5 toolbar, click Options and select a microphone under "Microphone." This lets you narrate while recording.

Record your screen on Windows 10 & 11

Method 1 — Xbox Game Bar (built into Windows):

Click into the app or browser window you want to record (it must be the active window).

Press Windows + G to open the Xbox Game Bar overlay.

Click the Record button (a circle icon) in the Capture widget, or press Windows + Alt + R to start recording immediately.

Perform the steps that show the problem.

Press Windows + Alt + R again to stop recording.

Find the recording in your Videos folder, inside a subfolder called "Captures."

Method 2 — Snipping Tool (Windows 11):

Open the Snipping Tool app — search for it in the Start menu.

Click the video camera icon to switch to video mode.

Click New and drag to select the area to record.

Click Start and perform the steps showing the problem.

Click Stop and save the recording.

Xbox Game Bar limitation

Xbox Game Bar can only record one app window at a time. If the problem spans multiple windows or involves the desktop, use the Snipping Tool method (Windows 11) or a free tool like OBS Studio.

Record your screen on iPhone

Add Screen Recording to your Control Center. Go to Settings → Control Center and tap the + button next to Screen Recording (if it's not already there).

Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen (on iPhones with Face ID) or swiping up from the bottom (on older iPhones).

Tap the Screen Recording button (a solid circle inside a circle). A three-second countdown starts.

Navigate to the problem and perform the steps you want to show us.

Stop recording by tapping the red status bar at the top of the screen, then tapping Stop. Or open Control Center and tap the Screen Recording button again.

The video saves to your Photos app.

Record with microphone audio

Press and hold the Screen Recording button in Control Center, then tap the Microphone icon to turn on audio so you can narrate what you're showing.

Record your screen on Android

Screen recording is built into Android 10 and later. The exact location varies by phone brand.

Standard method:

Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel. Swipe down again to see more options.

Look for a "Screen Recorder" or "Screen Record" tile. Tap it to start.

If prompted, choose whether to record audio and whether to show touches on screen.

Perform the steps that demonstrate the problem.

Tap the stop button in the notification bar at the top of the screen.

The recording saves to your Gallery or Files app.

Can't find the Screen Recorder tile?

Tap the pencil icon in Quick Settings to edit the tiles and add Screen Recorder. If your Android version is older than Android 10, you may need a free app like AZ Screen Recorder from the Play Store.

How to share the recording with us

Screen recordings are usually too large to attach directly to an email. The best approach is to upload the video to a file-sharing service and send us the link.

Upload the video to one of these services:

  • Google Drive — go to drive.google.com, drag the file in, then click Share and set to "Anyone with the link can view"
  • Dropbox — drag the file into Dropbox, click Share, copy the link
  • WeTransfer — go to wetransfer.com, upload the file, enter support@chykalophia.com as the recipient

Copy the share link.

Paste the link into a ClickUp comment on your task, or include it in your email to us.
