Troubleshooting Elementor problems

Solutions to the most common Elementor issues — from the editor not loading to layouts breaking after an update.

Elementor usually works smoothly, but occasionally things go wrong. This guide covers the most common problems and how to fix them — or when to call us.

Quick summary

Most Elementor problems fall into four categories: the editor won't load, the layout looks broken, changes aren't showing on the live site, or something broke after an update. Each has a reliable set of fixes covered below.

Problem 1: Elementor editor won't load

The page spins or shows a blank screen when you try to open Elementor.

Try these steps in order:

Hard-refresh the browser. Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).

Try a different browser. If Elementor loads in Chrome but not Firefox (or vice versa), the issue is browser-specific. Clear your cache in the failing browser.

Disable browser extensions. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can interfere with Elementor. Disable them temporarily.

Check for a plugin conflict. In WordPress, go to Plugins and deactivate all plugins except Elementor and Elementor Pro. Try loading the editor. If it works, a plugin was the cause. Re-activate plugins one by one to find the culprit.

Check your server's PHP memory limit. Elementor needs adequate memory to run. This is a hosting configuration issue — contact us if you suspect this.

Problem 2: Layout looks broken on the live site

Columns are stacked unexpectedly, sections are misaligned, or the page looks completely different from what the editor showed.

Common causes and fixes:

CauseFix
Browser cache showing old layoutHard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R)
Server/hosting cache not clearedClear the cache from your hosting panel or caching plugin
CSS from a theme conflictingCheck if the issue appeared after a theme update — contact us
Elementor Pro update changed behaviorRoll back using revision history, then contact us

Do not try to fix complex layout breaks yourself

If the layout is broken site-wide (not just on one page), or if it appeared after a plugin or theme update, contact us. These issues often require developer investigation.

Problem 3: My changes aren't showing on the live site

You saved in Elementor but the old content is still visible.

Hard-refresh the browser on the live page: Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R.

Clear the site cache if you have a caching plugin (like WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, or LiteSpeed Cache). Look for a "Clear Cache" button in the WordPress admin bar.

Check you published, not just saved as draft. Go back into Elementor and confirm the Update button was clicked.

Try viewing the page in a private/incognito browser window to bypass local cache completely.

Problem 4: Something broke after an update

Elementor, WordPress, your theme, or a plugin was updated and now something looks wrong.

Open the affected page in Elementor. Go to the revision history (clock icon) and look for a version from before the update.

Restore the pre-update revision if possible.

Contact us immediately if the break is site-wide or involves the header, footer, or key templates. Do not attempt to fix complex structural issues yourself.

Problem 5: Elementor says "Please enable JavaScript"

This usually means a browser setting or extension is blocking JavaScript. Elementor requires JavaScript to run.

  • Disable browser extensions temporarily
  • Check your browser's JavaScript settings — make sure it is enabled
  • Try a different browser

Problem 6: I can't edit a specific element — clicking does nothing

  • The element may be covered by an invisible overlay (a transparent section with pointer events)
  • Try using the Navigator panel to click the element from the tree list
  • Right-click on the area and see if the context menu appears

Problem 7: The editor is extremely slow

  • Close other browser tabs to free up memory
  • Disable browser extensions
  • Check if the page has an unusually large number of widgets — complex pages load more slowly in the editor
  • A slow hosting server also affects editor performance — contact us if the site-wide speed is poor

  • The layout is broken site-wide
