Elementor popups (overview)
An overview of Elementor's popup builder — what popups are, how they work, and how to edit the content inside one if your site already has them.
Popups are small windows that appear over your web page to capture attention — often for a newsletter signup, a special offer, or an important notice. Elementor Pro includes a popup builder. This guide covers what popups are and how to work with existing ones.
Quick summary
Elementor popups are designed and managed through Templates → Popups in the WordPress dashboard. Each popup has trigger settings (when it shows) and condition settings (on which pages it appears). You can edit the content inside a popup the same way you edit any Elementor layout.
What you'll need
Intermediate- Elementor Pro installed
- WordPress administrator or editor access
What is a popup?
A popup is an overlay window that appears on top of the page content. Common uses include:
- Newsletter signup forms ("Join our list for 10% off")
- Cookie consent notices
- Special announcements or promotions
- Exit-intent offers (shown when someone moves to close the tab)
- Lead capture forms
Elementor's popup builder lets you design these visually, the same way you design a regular page.
How to view your existing popups
In your WordPress dashboard, go to Templates in the left menu.
Click "Popups." You will see a list of all popups on your site.
Click "Edit" next to a popup to open it in Elementor and see its design.
How to edit popup content
Editing the content inside a popup works exactly the same as editing a regular page:
Open the popup for editing (Templates → Popups → Edit).
Click any element inside the popup to select it.
Edit text, images, buttons, and forms in the left panel as normal.
Click "Update" to save your changes. The popup will show the updated content next time it triggers.
Popup settings: triggers and conditions
Every popup has two important settings panels (accessed from the editor):
Triggers
Triggers control when the popup appears. Common triggers include:
- On Page Load — appears after the page loads (with a delay in seconds)
- On Scroll — appears after the visitor scrolls a set percentage of the page
- On Exit Intent — appears when the visitor moves the mouse toward closing the tab
- On Click — appears when someone clicks a specific button or element
Conditions
Conditions control which pages the popup appears on — the entire site, specific pages, specific post types, etc.
Leave trigger and condition settings to us
Changing when and where a popup appears can significantly affect visitor experience and conversion rates. We recommend contacting Chykalophia before changing trigger or condition settings. Content edits (text, images) are safe to make yourself.
Enabling and disabling a popup
To temporarily disable a popup (for example, when a promotion ends):
Go to Templates → Popups in WordPress.
Hover over the popup and look for an option to deactivate it, or change its status from "Published" to "Draft."
The popup will stop showing once deactivated. Re-publish it to turn it back on.
