Flywheel billing & plans
An overview of Flywheel's hosting plans, how billing works, and what to do if you have a question about your invoice.
Understanding your Flywheel billing helps you make sure your site stays online and you're on the right plan for your needs. Here's what you need to know.
Quick summary
Flywheel charges monthly or annually for hosting, based on the plan tier you're on. Plans are defined by monthly visits, storage, and number of sites. Billing is managed through your Flywheel account. If Chykalophia is managing hosting on your behalf, we'll handle invoices and communicate costs to you.
How Flywheel plans work
Flywheel offers tiered plans. Each plan defines:
- Monthly visit limits — the amount of traffic your site can receive before overage charges apply.
- Storage — how much disk space is available for your site's files.
- Number of sites — some plans cover a single site; higher tiers cover multiple sites.
- Features — all plans include backups, SSL, staging, and CDN.
Pricing changes over time. For current plan details and pricing, visit Flywheel's hosting page.
Billing cycles
Flywheel offers two billing options:
| Option | How it works | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Charged each month | Flexible — easy to change or cancel |
| Annual | Charged once per year | Usually cheaper — typically saves around 2 months compared to monthly |
We'll discuss the best billing cycle for your situation during your project setup.
Who pays the Flywheel bill
This depends on how your account is structured:
- If you own the Flywheel account: You're billed directly by Flywheel.
- If Chykalophia manages hosting on your behalf: We bill you as part of your care plan or a hosting pass-through fee.
See who pays for hosting? for more detail.
What happens if a payment fails
If a Flywheel payment fails (e.g. an expired credit card), Flywheel will typically:
- Retry the charge.
- Send reminder emails to the account owner.
- If the issue isn't resolved, the account may be suspended — temporarily taking your site offline.
To avoid this, keep your payment method up to date in your Flywheel account settings.
Updating your payment method
Log in to Flywheel at app.getflywheel.com.
Go to your account billing settings. Look for a billing or payment method section in your account menu.
Update your card details. Enter the new card number, expiry, and security code.
Save the changes. Your next charge will use the updated card.
Changing your plan
If your site outgrows its current plan (e.g. you're approaching visit limits), you can upgrade from within your Flywheel account. Contact us first if you're unsure which plan to move to.
